About Me

I have been deeply involved in the community for over fifty years. I am originally from North Carolina, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a Public Health Certification. As a volunteer, I have served on 30 boards in the community and as a juror on the Monterey County Civil Grand Jury. I am currently chair of the Natividad Hospital Board of Trustees and was elected to the Monterey Peninsula College Governing Board of Trustees in 2020, presently serving as chair.
I spent over 20 years on the Monterey Parks and Recreation Commission while my children were growing up. I was elected to the Monterey City Council in 2004 and served there for 12 years until 2016.
I enjoy traveling, reading and taking enrichment classes in my leisure time. I have taken numerous classes at MPC over the years and many of "The Great Courses" at home. I have a thirst for knowledge and believe in life-long learning. My husband, Wayne, is a retired administrator from MPUSD having worked there for 37 years. He continues with ghe Salvation Army Board, as well as the Chapman Foundation which is responsible for donating over one-half million dollars to student scholarships annually.

We are fortunate to have three children and seven grandchildren of whom we are most proud. Watching them grow and develop is a pure joy. I am especially grateful to one grandson, Luke Downey, who developed this webpage for me!

As a seasoned public servant with four years of experience on the Board of Trustees, I will continue to work diligently and would appreciate your vote in November!
